Whenever he opens his mouth, Nani makes sure he is to-the-point yet very affable. An interviewer's delight, the Natural Star gets candid in this exclusive interview to IndiaGlitz.
Seriously, is 'Majnu' a serious movie?
'Majnu' is not a serious flick as its title suggests. A fun ride, I won't call it a triangular love story; I won't say it's the opposite either. You have to watch it to know what it is. The title is that of a Nagarjuna garu's movie, but similarity ends there.
Speaking at the audio release function, you said that Virinchi is so lovable a human being that one would want to give him away anything. What is so special about him?
Virinchi Varma is a good talent and a good human being as well. It's common to see directors who pen stories based on some international cinema and adapt it to our nativity. In contrast, Virinchi has no idea about Hollywood. When he conceives an idea, he develops it and makes it into a movie as per his own sensibilities and persuasions. He surely will become a big director in future.
Like Niveda Thomas, Anu Emmanuel says that you are the best. Why do you think they have said that?
Maybe they think it would help in promoting our movie. (Smiles). I am jolly on sets. I am never serious. Maybe, that's the reason why they say (they are my favourite).
You are playing an assistant director in 'Majnu'. Filming for these portions, were you reminded of your past?
The situations I was in back then are different from the situations my character faces in the movie. I nevertheless derived 'kick' out of playing an assistant director as I myself was one before becoming an actor.
Did Avasarala Srinivas offer you 'Jyo Achyutananda'?
He told me the story as a friend, not with the intention of casting me. He had narrated to me his first movie as well. We both acted together in 'Ashta Chamma' and since then, we have been good friends.
When is your movie with Avasarala Srinivas happening?
Whenever Srini is ready with the script. It's confirmed that Srini's next is going to be with me. He is not in a hurry to do films by dime a dozen. He takes his time to develop a script. Our movie will be a distinct one.
Do you think the audience are going to accept you in a mass avatar?
'Nenu Local' is not massy in the usual sense of the term. It's more massy for Nani and less than massy for what it is understood as. The movie will be released in December.
